News - Summer 2009
The band’s flexibility and enthusiasm has enabled them to enjoy popularity in a variety of gigs and weather this summer
Dressing up for the Finstock Re-enactment of 100 years ago was only the beginning of a great day out with plenty of healthy exercise beating the perimeter of the village. If you have access to the internet you can view more pictures of the day go to www.nordicpics.co.uk and then click on "Your photos", and follow the link to Finstock Club Day.
Drizzle did not dampen the spirits at the Banbury Town Mayor’s Hobby Horse Festival when the band were moved for cover into the refreshment tent. A sudden downpour at the Pear Tree’s annual Beer and Ale Festival in Hook Norton saw everyone making new friends as the band ducked for cover with well prepared onlookers. When the sun came out again the band carried on to the double delight of those who had, so recently, provided shelter.
The very next day the band turned out yet again for more fun of the fair at the Wardington Cricket Club Fete, playing along to tug of war and other activities.
Party goers at a 50th wedding anniversary in Wootten Wawen
gave the rafters a good shaking at Warwickshire’s oldest church when the band played with guest conductor: David Stanley. The enthusiastic audience delighted in the range of music including classical marches, selections from Oliver and Oklahoma, Gonad’s Adagio, and when “Jerusalem” was announced they all rose and joined in with great heart.
They did not then sit for long however, as “The Muppet Show” encore received a standing ovation.
After the Brailles Village Show on August 9th the band will take a short well-deserved rest before recommencing rehearsals for the new year on September 1st and with a re-launch of the Training band at an Open Evening on Monday September 8th
Training Band Open Evening Monday September 8th 6.30 - 7.15pm Banbury School, Ruskin Road.
